Description
The perilla plant (Perilla frutescens), also known as ¨Shiso¨or”Japanese basil” is an annual species native to East Asia. This is a green Japanese variety (aoshiso, 青紫蘇), which stands out for the aroma, flavor and tender texture of its leaves. Apart from the leaves, its flowers, seeds and oils are also highly appreciated.
It is a very easy-to-grow plant that can grow both in a pot and in the garden. Sun and water, little more care is needed.
In Japan it is used to accompany dishes (sashimi, sushi), in salads or to make sauces. It stands out for its unmistakable flavor between anise and mint.
